Connect and verify
Connect your Ledger device and follow the on-screen instructions. Choose a PIN directly on the device, then let the genuine check in Ledger Wallet confirm that your hardware is authentic.
Write down your recovery phrase
Your device displays a unique 24-word recovery phrase. Write every word in order on the recovery sheet and keep it offline in a private, secure place. Never photograph it or type it into a website.

is yours alone.
Your 24 words are the master backup to your wallet. Anyone who sees them can access your assets; Ledger will never ask you to share them—not by email, message, phone, or support chat. Enter your PIN only on your Ledger device, and approve transactions on the device after checking the details.
Keep the recovery sheet offline and somewhere only you can access. If a website or person asks for your phrase, stop: it is a scam. A hardware wallet helps keep your private keys offline, but careful habits are an essential part of protecting them.
